Good Intentions: Forging a Pathway off the Road of Insanity - Evviva Lajoie
Library based Open Source Software communities often discuss their desires to be more inclusive and to bring diverse voices to the table, but what is actually stopping us from doing so? In this talk, Evviva will outline barriers to adoption and community building, identify some of the systemic structures that are holding us back and explore pathways forward that could, through collective action, save us from being forced to live within walled gardens of national boundaries and proprietary systems.

Ensuring Sustainable Programs with It Takes a Village
What does it take to make sure programs are sustainable? In 2017, IMLS funded a LYRASIS project to assess how open source software applications serving cultural and scientific heritage organizations attain long-term sustainability, known now as "It Takes a Village" (ITAV). The ITAV Guidebook can act as a roadmap for all types of programs, not only open source software. Using the four facets outlined in the Guidebook - Technology, Governance, Resources and Community Engagement, ITAV can be a tangible tool for ensuring sustainability, regardless of where a program currently sits within its life cycle.  The framework can also help those working with or evaluating whether to use and/or support open source and other programs based on their sustainability efforts.  The session will include an overview of the framework, how it is being used by programs and time for questions.

Supporting FOLIO Community Testing/Implementation Part I: User Support
Agenda or outcome: Discuss the types of situations encountered (e.g. user errors, software bugs, migration/implementation issues) and how they can best be supported.
This session, the first of two on the support process for FOLIO testing and implementation partners,  outlines the initial triage of software issues that will be handled by the implementing or testing partners and, where applicable, support institutions. This includes  the process by which vendors are supporting their implementation partners, how self-hosting institutions are supporting their own implementations, and how questions, problems, and lessons that come up during implementation are filtered back into the general FOLIO Community.

This session will be continued in Part II, this afternoon, which consists of a panel of dev and support folks who will
  1. Review the process for reporting software bugs
  2. Discuss the service level agreement

FOLIO and ReShare - opportunities for integration
While Project ReShare has separate membership and governance, it is based on the same software platform as FOLIO and it uses the same app model and UX-first principles as FOLIO. As an ILS-neutral resource sharing solution, ReShare will be able to integrate with any ILS, but the close kinship between the projects offer special opportunities for slicker workflows and better functionality. Project ReShare would like to invite a brainstorming session, to learn what FOLIO community members might desire in a closely integrated resource solution, and how the two projects might best support each other.

FOLIO Plenary Session - Arkivum & Shanghai Library and FOLIO
We would like to share our work on Perpetua at WOLFcon, as the first non-core app to be integrated with FOLIO’s platform. We would like to present during a FOLIO plenary session. It would be a fantastic opportunity to introduce ourselves to the FOLIO community and begin to engage and collaborate. Perpetua is a software solution for safeguarding, preservation and providing access to a wide range of digital content types that are often part of the library remit. This includes scholarly outputs, research data, special collections and institutional records. Arkivum is integrating Perpetua as an app into the FOLIO ecosystem, which will provide support in FOLIO for preserving and safeguarding digital content for the long-term. Perpetua builds upon and integrates several community open source solutions including Archivematica for digital preservation and Access to Memory (AtoM) for archive information management and online access. Along with open specifications and APIs, Perpetua fits well with the FOLIO philosophy and fills a gap in FOLIO capabilities (e.g. as identified in the FOLIO working group whitepaper on special collections and archives). This includes the ability for libraries to use Perpetua within FOLIO to store, preserve, manage and access their special collections and archives using archival standards (ISADG etc.) and be able to describe both physical and digital content that they hold. Perpetua will integrate with the FOLIO codex and its Data Model. For example, this will ensure that special collections are discoverable alongside other resources in a uniform way. Users will be able to search for content through the codex and then be directed to Perpetua where they can view the full record for matching content. If items are in digital form (e.g. images, audio, video, documents etc.) then users will be able to view/play them directly in Perpetua. Likewise, for digital content that already exists in FOLIO, e.g. in repositories or other applications, we are looking at how this could be transferred into Perpetua for additional safeguarding and preservation.

Strive for Revive in the Frontier of a New Horizon: the Case of Shanghai Library
Members of the library will present a summary of the requirements for upgrading Shanghai Library’s platform. They will discuss the needs of needs of being a metropolitan public library, a research library, and the center of a whole-city library alliance. They will discuss the basic functional modules scheduled in the Shanghai Library's upgrades in 2021, as well as the aspects that need to be coordinated and supported by the international FOLIO community. They will also introduce considerations for the future of the FOLIO community in China, such as code contribution, an app store, compatibility evaluation, alliance service, etc.

FOLIO & OpenAthens integration
Agenda or outcome: This session will focus on authentication needs that have arisen thus far amongst FOLIO early adopters. It will include a case study on Chalmers University of Technology's FOLIO launch which included an OpenAthens integration aimed, at the outset, at increasing ease of access and supporting log-ins for various user groups, including community walk-in users. Integrating a SAML-based, library-centric tool like OpenAthens also answered questions about how to increase visibility of resource usage, provide actionable statistics, and empower the library to meet security, privacy, and UX recommendations in the digital library environment. The session will start with a presentation, demonstration and include time for discussion and questions.

Controlled Digital Lending in FOLIO
Controlled Digital Lending
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlled_digital_lending) is a model
for increasing access to library holdings by circulating an electronic
copy of a physical work. The model is based on an interpretation of the
Fair Use principle of copyright law, written by legal experts and
endorsed by a substantial list of professionals. CDL is already offered
by several libraries, either based on homegrown solutions outside of the
ILS or through a lightweight service offered by the Internet Archive. As
far as we are aware, no present ILS has explicit support for managing
CDL alongside other forms of resource access. Sebastian Hammer would
like to invite a conversation about what strong support for CDL in FOLIO
might look like, and what might be the implications for resource access
and perhaps resource sharing. This would strictly be an informal
brainstorming session, but hopefully part of a wider conversation in
FOLIO over time.
