What does it take to make sure programs are sustainable? In 2017, IMLS funded a LYRASIS project to assess how open source software applications serving cultural and scientific heritage organizations attain long-term sustainability, known now as "It Takes a Village" (ITAV). The ITAV Guidebook can act as a roadmap for all types of programs, not only open source software. Using the four facets outlined in the Guidebook - Technology, Governance, Resources and Community Engagement, ITAV can be a tangible tool for ensuring sustainability, regardless of where a program currently sits within its life cycle. The framework can also help those working with or evaluating whether to use and/or support open source and other programs based on their sustainability efforts. The session will include an overview of the framework, how it is being used by programs and time for questions.
